The “Culture of Regional Cooperation” Workshop is an event organised in the framework of the newly launched “Civil Society Initiative of the Vienna Western Balkans Summit” on 26 May 2015 in Belgrade. This Workshop will be a great opportunity to reassess the current state of regional cooperation in the Balkans and to identify two crucial questions, which should be used as red threads for the civil society debate during the Vienna Western Balkans Summit.
The Vienna Western Balkans Summit will take place on 27 August 2015, with the participation of heads of EU member states and countries of South Eastern Europe. It is a continuation of the so-called “Berlin Process”, which was initiated in August 2014 by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to show further political commitment to the future enlargement of the European Union towards the Western Balkans. On the day of the Summit, civil society representatives will have the possibility to present their concrete proposals to the present politicians, therefore kicking off a process of further civil society engagement until the next Summit in August 2016.
Prominent civil society representatives will meet for preparative workshops in Tirana, Belgrade and Sarajevo during May and June 2015 to discuss the topics: creation of jobs and prosperity, culture of regional cooperation and freedom of expression.
The “Culture of Regional Cooperation” Workshop is a joint project of ERSTE Foundation, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and Karl Renner Institute, in close cooperation with the European Fund for the Balkans.
