4 EFB Community members, Alumni of the Fellowship Programme for Young Government Officials from the Western Balkans, participated in the Political Symposium in the framework of the European Forum Alpbach “International Justice – Global Equity”.
2011 Alpbach Political Symposium focused on current issues in the creation and implementation of international law. It placed the question of global fairness at the centre of debates among high-ranking politicians, researchers, journalists and activists.
In 3 intensive days Political Symposium offered various lectures starting from the Global Economic and Climate Justice, Peacebuilding and Development Cooperation, International Jurisdiction and Security Policy, Transitional Justice, Young Civil Society in North Africa etc. Some of the questions raised during the debates were: How can we make the global economic system more just? How can we prevent historical conflicts from turning into »chronic diseases« and avoid that, after a regime change, victims and perpetrators simply swap roles? How much solidarity do the members of communities of states owe each other?
The Forum was opened by Luis MORENO OCAMPO, Prosecutor, International Criminal Court, The Hague, Amr MOUSSA, Former Secretary-General of the Arab League, Cairo, Michael SPINDELEGGER, Vice Chancellor and Minister of European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Vienna, Danilo TÜRK, President of the Republic of Slovenia, Ljubljana and Erhard BUSEK, President, European Forum Alpbach, Vienna. Many respected speakers and guests shared their views on International Justice and Global Equity.
The Programme was also followed by many social activities including the live concert of the Rundek Cargo Trio.
Participation of the EFB Community members is for the second year generously supported by the ERSTE Foundation.
