Balkans beyond Borders is an online short film competition on the subject of regional cooperation in the Balkans wider region. The call for submissions was opened on the 7th of December 2009. The BBB Competition is part of the "Southeast Europe and the EU - Leadership Development Programme", a joint project from the European Fund for the Balkans, the TRANSFUSE Association and the College of Europe. The programme is made possible through support from the European Fund for the Balkans.

After further consideration and feed-back from prospective participants, the deadline for receiving submissions has been extended to the 1st of March 2010, in order to allow those who wish to send their films to dedicate more time to the production of their films, hence ensuring a better quality of submissions.

Furthermore, the Organisation Committee has decided to extent eligibility to all young people under 30 years old, regardless of their nationality, as long as their film relates to the subject of regional cooperation in the Balkans.

The composition of the international evaluation committee has also been finalized Mr. Konstantinos Rigos, a highly appreciated Greek director, has accepted to preside the committee.

The winner of the competition will be awarded 400 Euros and will be invited to the final event in Belgrade, on the 13th of March 2010, when the 10 best films will be projected in front of a larger audience. The winning film will also participate in the Naoussa International Film Festival and will be promoted in the Balkan wider region during the follow-up activities of the project.

The main objective of the project is to invite young people to create short films through which they reflect on their region’s current and future situation. The aim is to get a better grasp of how young people understand regional cooperation, but also to deepen young people’s knowledge on issues relating to neighbouring countries, as well as raise awareness about the importance of cooperation for the future development of the countries in the region.

The project addresses young people, up to 30 years old, interested in creatively expressing their ideas on regional cooperation in Southeast Europe through film making.

The films can be documentaries or fiction, animations, recorded performances. They must address the subject of the call and have no more than 10 minutes length. The official language of the competition is English.

In order to apply, films need to be uploaded to a free online fileserver, like rapidshare or www.yousendit.com and the download link needs to be sent to the following e-mail address: filmcontest@balkansbeyondborders.eu, together with a short entry form, giving further information about the participants and the film.
