The European Fund for the Balkans and the Monitoring Center (CEMI) in cooperation with Gallup Europe are organizing a public discussion “Montenegro and European Union: Government knows best?!”, in Podgorica, on Thursday 18 February 2010, 11:00 – 13:00 at PR Center, Bulevar Sv Petra Cetinjskog, building Maksima, tower C, I floor, Podgorica.

Following the European Commission’s evaluations of progress of the Western Balkans towards European integration, the new Gallup Balkan Monitor on public opinion in the region offers insights into citizens’ views of the EU. In order to present and widely acknowledge the results of the Gallup Balkan Monitor, the European Fund for the Balkans in cooperation with Gallup Europe initiated a series of Gallup Balkan Monitor presentations and public discussions in the capitals of Western Balkan countries on the future of the Balkans, its European aspirations and the potential of “attitude change” and Europeanisation of the societies in the region.

The Podgorica event will focus on respondent’s attitudes and perceptions in Montenegro. The Gallup Balkan Monitor investigates public opinion on various issues, from the satisfaction with life standard and living conditions of citizens, state development, confidence in regional institutions, expectations from the government and attitudes towards EU integration, corruption, emigration issues, ethnic relations and the future of the region.

The discussion will be opened with short introduction by Ms. Hedvig Morvai-Horvat, Executive Director of the European Fund for the Balkans. The results of country specific results for Montenegro will be presented by Mr. Robert Manchin, Director of Gallup Europe.

The discussion participants are Ms. Gordana Djurovic (tbc), Minister of European Integration in Montenegro, Ms. Daliborka Uljarevic, Director of the Center for Civic Education, Mr. Zlatko Vujovic, Director of the Monitoring Center (CEMI) and Ms. Bosiljka Vukovic (tbc), EFB Alumni Member, currently Advisor in the Office for Sustainable Development in Montenegro. The discussion will be moderated by Ms. Bojana Stanisic, journalist, “TV Vijesti”.
