The European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), with the support and cooperation of the European Fund for the Balkans (EFB), published the Report “Resilience in the Western Balkans”. This Report analyses the drivers of fragility and resilience in the context of the internal and external challenges facing the region. Zoran Nechev, member of the Balkans in Europe Policy Advisory Group (BiEPAG) and EFB fellow at the EUISS, and his colleagues – Sabine Kajnč Lange and Florian Trauner are the editors of the report that examines the issues on how internal and external factors influence the Western Balkan societies and their politics in relation to their progress towards accession to the European Union, and how can policy approaches, mechanisms and instruments counter internal and external factors that threaten the EU accession perspective. Analyses and recommendations that the EU and regional actors may consider with a view to building up more resilient states and societies are drafted by many contributors, such as Nikola Dimitrov, former BiEPAG member, Igor Bandović, Senior Programme Manager at EFB and BiEPAG members - Florian Bieber, Srđan Cvijić, Corina Stratulat and Tobias Flessenkemper. The European Fund for the Balkans, in cooperation with the European Union Institute for Security Studies, has established the new Fellowship Programme for junior and senior researchers at the EUISS last year. For the period of nine months, the EUISS hosted three research fellows from the region.
