Atlantic Council conference “Shaping a Balkan Future in an Era of Uncertainty”

Executive Director of the European Fund for the Balkans, Hedvig Morvai, took part at the Atlantic Council conference “Shaping a Balkan Future in an Era of Uncertainty” on November 29 in Washington, D.C. The conference gathered over 150 experts, regional leaders and decision-makers from both sides of the Atlantic in order to elaborate the future policy of the United States of America and European Union towards the Balkans. Morvai participated in the panel "Going the Distance: The US-EU Partnership in the Balkans and Prospects for Euro-Atlantic Integration" together with the US Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Albania and Montenegro, Ditmir Bushati and Srđan Darmanović, Rosemary di Carlo, President of the National Committee on American Foreign Policy and Katerina Sokou, Washington, D.C. Correspondent of Kathimerini Greek Daily. They discussed to what extent should the US and EU be involved in the region to avoid backsliding and what steps do EU aspirant countries from the Balkans need to take in order to maintain momentum in the accession process. The conference was preceded by a one-day workshop “Region at Risk: Workshop on Security Challenges in the Western Balkans” featuring experts from the United States, Europe and the Balkans who discussed solutions to some of the key security challenges faced by the region.
